Back to Index of Program Maintenance & Sustainability Organizational Structure and Affiliations Organizational structure is a significant issue. It can mark a distinction between programs that demonstrate sustainability and programs that do not. Brownfields Job Development and Training programs that stand by themselves and attempt to go it alone sometimes have an extremely difficult time. Stand-alone programs must support all activities required to train, place, and track students. Support must cover 100 percent of organizational infrastructure costs, facilities, and administrative obligations.
A possible solution may be for your Brownfields Job Development and Training program to become part of larger job training programs and thereby contribute only a portion of overall costs. In this arrangement, you would share facilities, organizational infrastructure, administrative overhead, and staff with other programs, resulting in. classrooms that are always filled, trainers that are always training, and job placement staff who are always active. This affiliation dramatically reduces the economic burden on the brownfields portion of the overall program. In addition, larger organizations provide a stronger magnet for attracting community support and financial assistance.
Below are examples of partnered or shared programs that include some of the following EPA-funded Brownfields Job Development and Training grantees:
